New date set for Joshua Bredo murder trial

A new October trial date has been scheduled for the man accused of first-degree murder in the death of Revelstoke musician Daniel Levesque.

Levesque died following a violent altercation in a Victoria, B.C. condominium in August of 2011.

The trial for Joshua Bredo is scheduled to start on Oct. 5, 2015.

Bredo faces charges of first-degree murder, sexual assault and unlawful confinement.

Bredo faced trial on the charges starting in late January of this year. In early March, Justice Malcolm Macaulay declared a mistrial, telling the court that the matter wasn’t properly ready for trial, the Victoria-Times Colonist reports.

The trial is subject to a publication ban, limiting what can be reported on the proceedings, including the reason for the mistrial.

The mistrial and now new trial extends a series of emotionally wrenching turns in the case.

Bredo was charged with second-degree murder following Levesque’s death, but the charge was stayed in late 2011 due to lack of evidence.

Bredo was then charged with first-degree murder and the additional offences in 2013.
