Video Mountain Men comes to Roxy Theatre on Friday

Revelstoke will finally get a chance to see Mountain Men at our hometown theatre when the Revelstoke-made film opens this Friday at 6:30 p.m.

The film starring Chace Crawford and Tyler Labine was filmed in Revelstoke and actually features Revelstoke as itself.

It tells the story of two brothers dealing with very different life stories united together, where they face a trial by wilderness.

The indie movie has a unique connection to Revelstoke. It was produced by Jason James, a Vancouver-based film producer who is the son of current Revelstoke Mayor Mark McKee.

You’ll see lots of familiar faces on screen as lots of locals get small parts and extra positions.

So, is it any good? You can find out all of next week, when the film plays nightly at the Roxy Theatre (Sept. 11–17, 6:30 p.m.)

But another positive indication is a good review (three out of four stars) from National Post newspaper film critic Cathering McIntyre, who can’t be accused of hometown boosterism.

In this review, she calls it an indie dramedy “that’s neither cliche nor vague.”

“It evades the vague cutesiness that too often overwhelms
the indie film circuit. Certainly, the expertly scripted dialogue carries the film, but it tells a compelling story with clear development and a resolution,” she writes.
