The passenger on a motorcycle died and the driver was injured after the motorcycle collided with an SUV on Highway 23.
The incident happened on Aug. 6 at around 2:45 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 23 and Denny’s Road.
In a statement, Surrey-based RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Halskov said the motorcycle was travelling southbound on Highway 23 when a northbound SUV made a left turn in front of the motorcycle.
The motorcycle crashed into the SUV. The male driver of the motorcycle suffered “serious but non-life threatening injuries” and was treated in hospital. His female passenger was badly injured and died in hospital following the collision. Both riders on the motorcycle were Alberta residents.
Trans-Canada East Traffic Services and the BC Coroners Service continues to investigate the incident. Police said impaired driving is not being considered as a contributing factor.
Clarification: The word “North” was removed after “Highway 23” in once instance to avoid confusion.
