More housing for Revelstoke on CP hill

Housing is proposed for the empty space of land near the Mackenzie Avenue railway crossing.

Owners Robert and Harry Elliot have applied to rezone their properties at 100 Track Street East and 101 Mulock Street East from single family to medium density residential.

This will allow for the properties, both at about half an acre each, to be subdivided. Medium density residential zoning allows for row and stacked housing, but guidelines state that rows cannot have more than eight units per building and stacked row housing cannot have more than four units per building.

It’s not finalized how many units will eventually be developed on the land, although the Elliots have plans to take influences for their development from the old Revelstoke railway station.

Their rezoning application fits in with Revelstoke’s Official Community Plan and Revelstoke City councillors approved the first and second reading of the rezoning application at the June 14 city council meeting.

“I just think this is a really unique opportunity [in a] good location. I am really supportive of this,” Coun. Nixon said.

“It’s a great day when someone brings forward more plans for new housing in Revelstoke,” Coun. Orlando said.

“I’m also excited for this,” Coun. Duke said.

A public hearing is scheduled for the July 12 city council meeting and residents within 100 metres of the proposed site will receive packages regarding the application.
