Meet the farmers: LFI launches Farm Tour Series

Meet the Revelstoke farmers who grow your food.

By Kirstin Lamotte

This summer the Revelstoke Local Food Initiative are providing you with the opportunity to see where your delicious, fresh food is coming from.

Have you ever noticed the wide variety of land being farmed within such a small area of B.C.? Join the LFI Farm Tour Series this summer and see how farmers creatively use the land to provide locally sourced food to Revelstoke. One of the farms we plan to visit, Greenslide Cattle, is a great example of this, transporting their herd across the Columbia River on a cattle sized barge. Along with this there are multiple urban farms popping up and farmers cultivating all forms of land from riverbanks to hillsides.

Our first tour will be to Wild Flight Farm in Mara on Sunday July 30. There will be tours, a potluck, live music, family games and organic beer – all on the banks of the beautiful Shuswap River! The LFI are providing transportation and all food for the potluck. Please join us! Tickets are $10 for LFI members and $15 for non-members, available at Big Mountain Kitchen and Linen.

Keep you foodie eyes pealed for our next tours including a Terra Firma and Greenslide collaboration (August 22), an Urban Farms Cycle Tour (August 29) and a food-filled adventure to see how the Nakusp/Burton farmers use their land (August 27).
