Kovach Park washroom location plan unchanged
Despite some resistance from neighbours, Revelstoke City has decided to continue with its initial decision for the placement of a washroom at Kovach Park.
Site plan number three will see the washroom built north of the walkway. The other possible plan was to place the washroom in the area where the swing sets are currently located, and move the swing sets across the walkway into the open field next to the new seniors exercise equipment.
Some residents preferred the second option as they wanted more separation between the skateboard park and the playground
A meeting held on March 23 with residents and council staff discussed these options and it was determined again that site plan three was the best for safety.
“It’s a measurable safety difference, which might not sound like much to people, but when we have professional staff on our payroll and they come forward with the recommendation that there is a measurable decision, I go with safety first and that is why I have decided to not revisit it,” acting mayor Linda Nixon said.
Councillors also decided to direct staff to look at establishing a closing time for the park as residents have expressed concern over unwanted nighttime activities at the park.
The new washroom building is slated for construction this year.
