July 24 was stolen truck wild west in Revelstoke

Friday saw an attempted truck theft, a successful truck theft, a truck stolen from elsewhere recovered here, a getaway on the Trans-Canada, and two people nabbed in another stolen truck at Pharmasave.

On Thursday, Revelstoke RCMP warned owners of pickup trucks to lock them up after a theft attempt the night before. Their prediction was right on the money.

The thieves started early when police got a tip about a man trying to steal an older truck in the 1400-block of Victoria Road just after 1 a.m. on Friday morning. Police weren’t able apprehend the man, who fled on foot.

Then, just a few minutes later, police noticed a suspicious truck travelling westbound on Victoria Road. When police tried to pull it over, it fled and was last seen fleeing towards Sicamous on the Trans-Canada Highway. Police later learned that the 2004 Ford truck had been stolen from the 1100-block of Second Street West in Revelstoke. The person driving the truck is described as a Caucasian male aged about 40. The plate number on that truck is BP-0550.

Next up, later that morning, police recovered a white Ford pickup on Wales Street. That truck had been stolen from Calgary, and police believe the man who stole the burgundy Ford ditched the white one there.

Later in the day, in what Revelstoke RCMP describe as an “unrelated matter,” at about 3 p.m. police got a tip about a suspicious silver Ford pickup in the Pharmasave parking lot. Police learned that truck was stolen from Vermillion, Alberta, and managed to surprise the two occupants in the lot.

They arrested a 20-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman. Police say the man was responsible for attempting to steal two trucks the night before, in the early morning hours of July 23. The man is scheduled to appear in Revelstoke Provincial Court on Oct. 7, facing charges of mischief to property and a count of being in possession of stolen property. The woman was released without charge.

Police are still seeking information on the one that got away — the 2004 burgundy Ford pickup. They are seeking tips to help identify the man seen fleeing in the vehicle. Again, he is described as Caucasian and about 40 years old.
