John Horgan campaigns for NDP in Revelstoke

John Horgan visited Revelstoke on Oct. 3 on a campaign stop, joining Columbia-River Revelstoke NDP candidate Nicole Cherlet for a speech in Centennial Park.

A small gathering of people, including a sizeable campaign entourage, listened in at the park. COVID-19 restrictions have put a damper on public events during the provincial election due to restrictions on gathering sizes.

Horgan used the opportunity to talk about NDP plans for mass timber manufacturing, saying it can bring jobs, contribute to housing and reduce carbon footprint.

“The climate crisis and the economic crisis brought on by COVID-19 are huge challenges, but they also represent opportunities to build BC back better,” said Horgan in a statement. “Expanding the use of new technologies, like mass timber, will help create new opportunities for workers and communities while helping us meet our net-zero target for reducing carbon pollution.”

The event also introduced NDP Columbia River–Revelstoke NDP candidate Nicole Cherlet, who gave an introductory speech.

“This has been a difficult time for all of us, but John Horgan understands what people are going through right now,” Cherlet said. “He has a plan to get people through the pandemic, and build an economic recovery that works for everyone.”

Later, the campaign visited Tantrum Ride Co., where they spoke with Greg Hoffart of Tree Construction, the company that built the recently completed passive standard building on First Street West. Hoffart talked about the need for access to advanced sustainable wood building products from B.C., noting they’d had to source some materials from Europe.
