Do you ever get the feeling that the news media is missing the great stories that matter to Revelstoke? Those stories about the passionate people doing amazing things that make this community a wonderful place to live? Serious explorations the issues that really matter to you? Stories that are a little more interesting, more engaging? You’re definitely not alone.

The Revelstoke Mountaineer welcomes the community to participate in our open editorial meetings, where you’ll guide decisions about the stories that get shared with the community in the Revelstoke Mountaineer. Be active and set the agenda.

The Revelstoke Mountaineer is a collaborative community news and information website and these open meetings are designed to get Revelstoke engaged.

In the coming weeks, we invite you to Monday lunch hour meetings at our office in the Revelstoke Coworking space, from 12:10–12:50 p.m.

Bring your ideas and we’ll workshop them as a group to create great stories for the community.

Revelstoke Mountaineer creative director Aaron Orlando has worked as a journalist in the community for the past seven years.

“Part of our mission at the Revelstoke Mountaineer is to help community members participate in the audio, visual, text and multimedia stories that we share about our community,” Orlando said. “Our goal is to create a democratized, journalism-based, community news media platform that eliminates barriers to participation, and is truly effective at reaching a local audience. We take care of the hard work, making it very easy for you to participate.”

Since launching in mid-January, the Revelstoke Mountaineer has built a growing weekly audience of several thousand engaged users. We want to help share the stories and issues you’re passionate about with them.

The Revelstoke Mountaineer is owned and operated here in Revelstoke, and we strive to represent and engage the community in our coverage. The inclusive meetings are open to individuals or those representing community organizations or businesses.

The meetings run Mondays at lunch hour until June 15 (except the May 18 holiday), from 12:10–12:50 p.m. Bring your lunch and bring your ideas, or just come hang out. We’ll announce further meetings after that, including at different times and in online forums.

The Revelstoke Mountaineer is located in the Revelstoke Coworking space at 101 Second Street East, above Royal LePage Revelstoke. Use the Second Street entrance, left at the top of the stairs.
