High-tech task force proposed for Revelstoke

City council will debate the idea of forming a high-tech task force designed to look at options for drawing businesses in the sector into the local economy. In addition, the issue of very slow Internet speeds in Revelstoke is on the proposed task force’s agenda.
At their Jan. 27 council meeting, councillors will consider assigning the task to director for community economic development Alan Mason.
“We understand there are improvements coming, that’s something we would like to find out, what exactly the problems are and how we go about improving them,” Mason said.
Boosting Internet capacity will allow more residents to work from home.
“You have people that love the lifestyle and want to come live here but everywhere needs employment, so the high tech sector provides an opportunity for people to live here but work at distance,” Mason said.
