Happy Canada Day! Here’s what’s happening in Revelstoke

Canada Day Parade

Revelstoke’s traditional Canada Day parade starts at noon at the Revelstoke Courthouse, runs along First Street, up Mackenzie Avenue and winds up with a community celebration in Queen Elizabeth Park, with lots of good stuff for everyone in the family.

The theme for this year’s parade is Transportation, How We Move.

Raising the flag

The cake cutting, flag raising and performances by the Revelstoke Community Band start at 1 p.m. in Queen Elizabeth Park.

Activities continue at Queen Elizabeth Park from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. They include music by Dan Drew, games, prizes, food vendors, a bocce tournament, a beer garden and other activities.

At 6:30 p.m., Sean Ashby takes the stage at the Revelstoke Summer Street Festival in Grizzly Plaza. Here is our preview of Sean’s show:

Chances are, if you’ve had a radio on today you’ve heard his guitar playing. As one of North America’s go-to guitarists, Sean Ashby has played and recorded with Sarah McLachlan, Delirium, Ginger (former Grapes Of Wrath), and many more. Ashby, is a singer /songwriter/guitarist/producer who released his debut album Brass and Gold on Black Sparrow/Universal in April of 2008.

Brass and Gold, Sean’s first solo outing after 10 years as leader of the award winning band Jack Tripper, was an eclectic record which showcased an impressive musical palette. The album received favorable reviews in important Canadian publications such as Exclaim magazine and the Vancouver Province, and received airplay on college radio and across the country on CBC radio.
