Grizzlies earn clutch win over Wranglers in Salmon Arm

The Revelstoke Grizzlies won a key matchup on Hockey Day in Salmon Arm, defeating the 100 Mile House Wranglers 3-1 in what was basically a must-win game.

Overtaking the Wranglers is the Grizzlies best hope for a playoff berth. Heading into the Saturday matinee, the Grizzlies (43 points) trailed the Wranglers (49 points) by six points. A loss would have meant the Grizzlies needed to count on a near-perfect record in their remaining six games, and near futility from the Wranglers for the rest of their season.

The win puts them four points back.

On Feb. 1, Tyler Chavez Leech led the Grizzlies to a win that gives them more control of their destiny.

After falling behind in the first period on a power play goal by the Wranglers’ Austin Turner, Chavez Leech put up two goals in the second, including an unassisted effort, and a power play goal assisted by Michael Roberts.

Josh Pilon got an insurance goal halfway through the third on another powerplay effort.

Revelstoke dominated in offensive effort, putting up 40 shots to 100 Mile House’s 18.

The Grizzlies face traditional arch rivals Sicamous Eagles on a weekday game at the Revelstoke Forum this Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. Revelstoke is currently seven points back of Sicamous; although not likely, they are reachable if Revelstoke takes this game.
