Friends rally to support Revelstoke family who lost home in Saturday morning fire

Friends of a young family who were displaced from their home following a Saturday morning fire are rallying the community to support the couple and children.

Jodi Kay, her husband Matt and son Noah were displaced after an electrical fire in their suite on Hay Road on Saturday, Feb. 6. Sadly, their pet dog succumbed to the fire.

The fire leaves them without a home and many of their belongings.

Friends are coordinating efforts to help the family, who is expecting a new addition in April, back on their feet.

The family needs a new two- to three-bedroom place, and they’ll need help gathering home supplies, as well as many other day-to-day needs.

A friend of Kay’s said there has been an outpouring of support from the community, including local businesses, and that cash donations are most needed.

Kay is well known here for her work on food initiatives in the community, including her role as Local Food Initiative coordinator. She previously penned a food column for Revelstoke Mountaineer Magazine, and is the head baker at Terra Firma’s Kitchen, a new local food restaurant.

We’ve reached out to Revelstoke Fire Rescue Services, but there has been no information available from the fire department as of Sunday afternoon.

In a brief statement, Revelstoke Fire Rescue Services said members attended a residence in the 1900-block of Hay Road at around 11 a.m., saying the fire was contained in a secondary suite. Nobody was home at the time. They said an initial investigation pointed to a counter-top appliance as a possible cause.
