Five arrested for squatting in Revelstoke home while owner out of town

Five Quebec residents will face a day in Revelstoke court after they were arrested for squatting in a vacant home in Revelstoke.

Revelstoke RCMP arrested the four adults and one youth on Aug. 5 after a neighbour reported unusual activity.

Police say they were able to track down the owner of the home, who was out of province at the time, and confirm the five individuals weren’t supposed to be there.

Three adult males, one adult female and one male youth are facing charges of “unlawfully in dwelling house.” All five are scheduled to appear in court in Revelstoke on Oct. 5.

Two dogs were also found inside the home.

In a statement, Revelstoke RCMP reminded residents to secure their homes and make sure someone is checking on vacant homes while you’re away, “and that anyone is encouraged to report any suspicious occurrences to the police.”

None of the allegations have been proven in court.
