Event recap: Fashion lovers flock to Style Trend Clothiers’ summer show

Local beauties (male and female) strutted the catwalk in Revelstoke on Friday evening, June 10, for Style Trend Clothier’s summer fashion show.

Although the weather was anything but summer, the event carried on without a hitch and by the time the last model had done their turn, the sun came out to play.

Models revealed outfits that were casual, contemporary and accessible to the everyday buyer. They were on-trend with elements of boho, retro and grunge.

For women, models’ outfits showed off pretty dresses, flowy tanks and long skirts. Scarfs and kimonos added a touch of drama to easy throw-on outfits such as pants with a simple tee.

There was also athletic wear with cropped leggings and the latest look for tanks, which is wide open sides that show off strappy or colourful sports bras.

Leathers jackets and flannel shirts toned down the pretty and gave a grunge appeal.

High waisted shorts are still big for warm weather and come in variety of materials (e.g. denim) and patterns (e.g. vintage floral).

Midriffs are also still in, although their popularity has likely calmed since they first hit stores, and flared jeans are making a comeback.

Mens’ fashion featured plain and printed shirts paired with cropped shorts and either a hoodie or button-up shirt.

For the more polished style, the go-to look was a black polo shirt and cream pants.

Hair was done by 1st Impressions Hair Salon and make up was by Missy MacKintosh. Models were sourced in Revelstoke and from the Okanagan’s Deja Vu Model Management. New Horizon Productions helped with the audio and lighting for the show.

Following the show, guests flocked to the store filling the shop wall to wall as they raced to get a bargain.

While it was good marketing for the store, owner Diane Bull said the models gained experience with the opportunity.

“We love being able to include our locals in an this event,” she said. “This year we had four local models and we were able to include some of our local high school students in specific areas where they have shown interest in pursuing [such as] photography, styling, marketing, and makeup artistry.”

With limited events in the shoulder season in Revelstoke, many made a night of it.

“We got so many comments of how it’s nice to be able to spend an evening out, so many of our guests made it into an evening — dinner, fashion show, and shopping,” Bull said.
