Edmonton teen dies after being struck by tractor-trailer on Trans-Canada Highway
The 18-year-old Edmonton man was walking on the highway at 1:30 a.m. at a location 25 kilometres west of Revelstoke when he was struck by a tractor-trailer.
An 18-year-old Edmonton man has died after being struck by a tractor-trailer commercial vehicle while he was walking on the Trans-Canada Highway early in the morning on Friday.
Trans Canada East Traffic Services spokesperson Sgt. Rob Haney said the incident happened at about 1:30 a.m. at a location 25 kilometres west of Revelstoke.
In a statement, Haney said the man was walking eastbound in the westbound traffic lane early in the morning when he was struck by the oncoming vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the commercial vehicle was not injured.
The incident led to a seven-hour closure of the Trans-Canada Highway.
“Members of the Trans Canada East Traffic Services unit continue to investigate the cause of this collision and are assisting the BC Coroners Service,” said Sgt. Haney in a statement. “There is no other information available at this time.
