Driver fatality after head-on with transport truck
A B.C. man has died following a head-on collision on the Trans-Canada Highway 18 kilometres east of Revelstoke Monday afternoon.
Revelstoke RCMP say Revelstoke Fire and Rescue, BC Ambulance Service and Revelstoke Traffic Services and Revelstoke RCMP responded to a collision between a westbound sedan and an eastbound transport truck at around 3:40 p.m.
The driver and lone occupant of the sedan, a fifty-two year-old male from B.C., succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the eastbound commercial vehicle was not injured.
Police say an initial investigation found the sedan crossed the centre line, on a curve, on a two-way section of the highway.
Police say there was compact snow with flurries and minimal visibility at the time.
The highway was closed for approximately ten hours.
Revelstoke RCMP are currently reporting compact snow with flurries in the Revelstoke area and advise motorist to check www.drivebc.ca before travelling.
At the time of writing, a travel advisory is in effect west of Revelstoke due to winter conditions causing serious congestion.
