Development permit values up in Revelstoke in 2016
Building permits and construction are up overall for the first half of 2015, with 23 new single family homes being constructed this year.
The Mountaineer has reported a number of new developments this year in Revelstoke and now the official stats for the year agree that development activity in town is up.
From January 1, 2016, to August 31, 2016 the City of Revelstoke’s Development Services department received and processed 69 development applications (these include rezoning, Official Community Plan amendments, development permits, development variance permits, heritage alteration permits and sign permits).
This is a 35 per cent increase on 2015, which for the same period had 51 applications.
“As we continue through the construction season the data indicates development activity is likely to continue to increase into 2017,” manager of development services Dean Strachan said.
The total annual building permit value, Strachan notes, is generally used as a measure of construction activity in communities across B.C.
For the January to August period this year, we had less building permits issued (127 compared to 157 in 2015), but the total value was 37 per cent higher at $14,181,000, compared to $10,346,000.
This year has seen 23 new single family dwellings built, with the total residential building permit value at $11,082,000, compared to $8,965,000 in 2015 and $8,955,000 in 2014.
