CSRD endorses ‘vacation rentals guiding principles’

If you own a vacation rental property in rural Revelstoke, you should be aware of moves the Columbia Shuswap Regional District is making on the subject.

At their July 28 board meeting, the CSRD approved a ‘guiding principles’ document that outlines their position on where the issue of vacation rentals should go.

The document will be forwarded to the B.C. Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Develpment, and is in part a response to a May letter from Minister Peter Fassbender requesting input from local governments on the issue.

The report outlines 15 guiding principles for vacation rentals in the CSRD. The principles cover issues such as water, sewer, safety codes, maximum sizes, parking, trailer parks, taxation, and notification on B.C. Assessment.

Within the entire CSRD, two electoral areas have additional guidelines for vacation rentals, including Area B around Revelstoke. The Area B policy requires a temporary use permit for vacation rentals, but doesn’t contain detailed requirements for vacation rentals as outlined in the new guiding principles.

Loni Parker is the CSRD Area B representative in Revelstoke, and the City of Revelstoke also has a place at the board table, currently filled by mayor Mark McKee.
