Cowpunkers Puttin’ on the Foil bring their trainwreck to Revelstoke

Puttin’ on the Foil is a breath of fresh air – right after a shot of corn whisky, a chaser of Pabst and a drag off a Player’s.
Puttin’ on the Foil (remember foil knuckles from Slap Shot?) bills themselves as hillbilly mountain cowpunk, which pretty much sums them up, though I might add drunk in there somewhere. Anyway, these guys are basically drunk cowboys with a punk attitude playing metalled-out country/rock.
Where to start? Maybe with one of the best band websites I’ve seen in a while. Technically it’s got issues, but it excels in shock value.
The highlight is a bunch of YouTube mockumentaries à la Trailer Park Boys featuring Ricky and Julian’s drunk, down-and-out, low-life cousin Trayne Rekk. Check it out. There’s one with lead singer (and natural ham) Trayne Rekk naked in a field with a horse. There’s a rad belly drum solo to Wipeout. There’s another with Rekk waking up passed out in a bed of empties in the tour van. Here’s a tamer one, aside from the swearing:

Rekk is an entertainer for sure. He’s the star of the YouTube shows. As far as I can tell he doesn’t own a shirt.
I only clicked on a few of their videos and I don’t think I hit rock bottom, so I’m not responsible for any images that get seared into your memory.
Their photo gallery features lots of Rekk face-down in-the-field, naked, empties strewn about sort of low-jinks. I’m seems like Rekk gets naked at some of his shows. So there’s that.
(A personal fave from the photo gallery is a pic of their set list scrawled on a piece of paper. Why do you need a set list for a handful of songs? Because the set list is: ‘Rowdy,’ ‘Drunk and Stupid,’ ‘Drunk and Horny,’ ‘Country Roads,’ ‘Need More Beer’ …)
Anyhow, the guitarist Tim actually rips, and the drummer looks like a young Dave Grohl (so put that in your plus or minus category as you will.)
We’re calling Puttin’ on the Foil’s Friday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb. 7 show at the River City Pub your best chance all week to get beer spilled on you.
