Community Futures launches Revy Open for Business Facebook group

The new group, launching on Dec. 1 will provide a place where local businesses and not for profits can connect and communicate with the community

Community  Futures has created a new Facebook group it says aims to build on the success of the recent Black Friday Revy Sell Takeover event. Called Revy Open for Business, the new group launches Tuesday, Dec. 1.

In a statement, Community Futures said the new group will keep the great energy created during the Revy Sell takeover event throughout the holiday season.  Funded by Community Futures, the project will provide a communication tool for businesses to communicate everything from the COVID-19 status of their business, delivery and curbside pick-up options, daily specials and other promotions.

“The idea is to create and maintain an online buzz to support local shopping over the holiday season. Businesses will be encouraged to be as creative with their posts as they can,” the statement said.

Revy Open for Business will be similar to RevySell. Licensed businesses and registered not for profits in the City of Revelstoke and CSRD Electoral Area B with products and services available to locals and visitors in Revelstoke can participate. Members of the public are invited to join the Facebook group  where they can see all businesses that are open and what they are offering on any given day, all in one place. Community Futures says it will “play moderators to keep the page positive and on point.”

Revy Open for Business will go live on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 9 a.m. and will continue for the month of December. Consumers who join the group by Dec. 5 will be entered into a draw to win one of three $100 gift cards from a participating business of their choice. Consumers must ask to join the group and agree to follow the Revy Open for Business rules.

Businesses wanting to participate in the group need to already have, or create, a Facebook profile for their businesses. In its statement, Community Futures said only pre-approved businesses can make posts. Like consumers, businesses joining the group agree to follow the rules.

Businesses and consumers who are not comfortable or familiar with social media but want to participate will have access to resources through the Revelstoke Tech Coordinator to help them safely set up Facebook profiles. This project aligns with the digital adoption mandate of the tech strategy. Anyone wishing for assistance with their Facebook profiles can contact Revelstoke Tech Strategy Coordinator Hayley Johnson by email: hayley@revelstokeideafactory.ca

Questions about the project can be directed to Community Futures General Manager, Kevin Dorrius at [email protected]
