Up close and personal with the DaisyBell: new video gives bird’s eye view of avalanche control on Trans-Canada Highway
Controlled avalanche programs help keep highway open during the winter.
Blasting through the snow is a regular occurrence along the TransCanada Highway near Revelstoke and Golden. Now, the public can get a closer look at one of the avalanche control methods used to help keep the roads open during the winter, thanks to a new video posted by the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
Avalanche technicians mounted a video camera on the bottom of a DaisyBell exploder and the results are fantastic!
The video provides viewers with a bird’s eye view of avalanche control done with a DaisyBell just east of Golden on Wednesday, March 7. The DaisyBell is a remote avalanche control system that is carried by a helicopter.
