The next time you trip on an uneven Revelstoke sidewalk because you’re walking and texting, there’s an app for that.
Revelstoke City Council is upping the city’s social media game in 2015 with the installation of a community interactive app called See.Click.Fix. Like the name implies, residents will be able to flag issues with city staff should they see a broken street light, pot hole or any other non-urgent annoyance. “I think it’s a good way to get the community involved and for the city to find out issues faster and, therefore, when something is serious they can be dealt with faster,” Mayor Mark McKee said. “I know there is a cost to this but we would be mitigating this cost and saving some money in areas.”
The app allows you to report the problem through your smart phone. The council will spend about $7,100 to purchase the app and its affiliate services.
City of Revelstoke CAO Tim Palmer said city service levels and residents’ expectations could be affected.
“I think we will have a bunch of higher expectations from citizens,” Palmer said.
The app, operated by a New Haven, Connecticut company, was launched in 2008 has been implemented around America and in Canada, including Toronto. “We have the information immediately so we will be more efficient,” Palmer said of the benefits of the app. “I would also anticipate that we will be able to mitigate risk and lawsuits as we will have better logging,” Palmer added.

The app isn’t operational in Revelstoke yet.
