The Canadian Forces Snowbirds are hoping to take part in an airshow in Revelstoke this summer.
The well-known air demonstration squad is seeking city council’s permission to fly over Revelstoke at altitudes as low as 500 feet.
If approved, the Snowbirds will participate in several events scheduled for July 25 and 26, 2017 including a non-aerobatic airshow.
Here is a tentative schedule of events:
July 25
– Snowbirds arrive at Revelstoke Airport at 12 p.m.
– Snowbirds Meet and Greet at Revelstoke Airport (open to the public) at 3 p.m.
-Snowbirds reception/Community Foundation Fundraiser at Revelstoke Mountain Resort at 7 p.m.
July 26
– Snowbirds non-aerobatic airshow at 4 p.m. Public viewing for the event will be held at Centennial Park from 3:50 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The Snowbirds team, also known as the 431 Air Demonstration Squadron, is made up of Canadian Armed Forces members and National Defence public service employees.

A report to city council notes Director of Community Economic Development Nicole Fricot is working to plan the event with the CSRD, the Chamber of Commerce, the Revelstoke Accommodation Association, Revelstoke Mountain Resort and Robert Powadiuk.
Costs associated with the project are being covered through external sources including fundraising, in-kind, and sponsorship grants, the report states.
