Coffee fans get ready as the Canadian AeroPress Championship Revelstoke Regional Qualifier comes to town Friday, July 19 at Dose Coffee’s local roastery

The competition is the first step to the World AeroPress Championship held this year in Lisbon, Portugal which will see champions from around the globe compete in the art of AeroPress brewing. Winners of the Canadian regional competitions will go on to the nationals held in Calgary, Alberta on Sunday, Aug. 4. From there winners will compete on the world stage in Lisbon. Started in 2008 as a fun way to show off brewing skills, the competition now hosts over 60 countries and 5,000 competitors to see who can make the best AeroPress brew recipe.

“It’s just this neat way for coffee enthusiasts and local roasters to get together and show off,” Lauren Webster, Dose Coffee co-founder told Revelstoke Mountaineer. Dose Coffee will be providing the venue for the competition and party, as well as Dose Roasted coffee beans to use in the competition.

Dose’s connection with Eight Ounce Coffee, host of the Canadian Nationals and seller of Dose Roasted coffees helped put the Revelstoke coffee shop on the map for the regional competitions. While organizing, Eight Ounce reached out to Dose and asked if they would be up for hosting.

“We’d obviously heard of the competition before. A couple of our team members have even competed in different events across the world,” Webster said. “We thought this would be something different for Revelstoke, and at the end of the day it’s an excuse to throw a party.”

Not only will the competition be live for folks to view and aeropress demonstrations take place, but live music from a local DJ, refreshing drinks and food from The Taco Club will be available. Audience access is free to attend and welcome to all ages.

Contestants will compete across four heats, two semi-finals and one final to see who can make the best AeroPress coffee with three judges making the call.

Current list of competitors includes Shinya Furue, Naoto Kamura, Eri Horie, Keegan Street with Rooftop Coffee Roasters, Devon Moonie with Log Jam Coffee, Natsuko Yamoshiro with Sprout Bread, Stewart Macwilliam with Urla Coffee Roaster, Tyler Jay, Andrew Fletcher and Reiley Geidt with The Taco Club.

The Canadian AeroPress Championship Revelstoke regional qualifier kicks off Friday, July 19 at 4 p.m. at the Dose Coffee Dosetery, 1960 Big Eddy Rd.
