Brief: Unattended cooking causes fire at Emerald Drive apartment
Quick response by fire crews sees fire contained to one unit of the six-plex building.
A quick response by Revelstoke Fire Rescue Services helped contain a structural fire to only one unit of a six-plex in the 1700 block of Emerald Drive.
Responding to the fire on Sunday, May 12, fire crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the kitchen and began an aggressive interior attack. The main floor of the unit sustained heavy smoke damage, some fire damage and there was minor smoke and water damage in the basement.
In a statement, the RFRS said the cause of the fire was determined to be cooking left attended, and are reminding residents to stay in the kitchen at all times during cooking and keep anything that can catch fire away from stovetops.
Emergency Support Services provided support to the residents.
