Brief: Unattended barbecue blamed for home blaze

Resident escapes with help from passerby after Airport Way home catches fire.

Revelstoke Fire Rescue Services (RFRS) says an unattended barbecue is the likely cause of a fire that caused extensive smoke and fire damage to a home at 1240 Airport Way on Aug. 7.

RFRS say they got the call just before 9 p.m. When crews arrived, the home was engulfed in flames. A resident of the home had escaped from the blaze with help from a passerby who spotted the flames.

RFRS reminds residents that cooking is a leading cause of home fires, reminding barbecue users to never leave a grill unattended, clean clean grease away, and to grill outdoors, away from siding, deck railings, eaves and branches.
