Revelstoke propane rates will be going down in January.
In a Dec. 7 media release, FortisBC announced that the per gigajoule rate will reduce from $12.842 per gigajoule (GJ) to $10.621 per GJ on Jan. 1, 2019.
However, the reduced commodity rate will be offset by a one-per cent increase in delivery rates. The delivery rate increase is still pending approval from the British Columbia Utilities Commission.
FortisBC estimates the reduction in rates will amount to an average $108 annual decrease for a typical Revelstoke residence.
FortisBC said the rate reduction is “due to healthy propane storage levels and relatively low oil prices over the past few months.”
Revelstoke’s district residential heating system operates on propane, and is the last of such city-wide systems in B.C. that uses propane.
