Brief: Revelstoke mayor candidate remains a mystery

Darcy Wyonzek has yet to begin publicly campaigning.

For most of the election nomination period it looked as though Gary Sulz was going to run uncontested to become Revelstoke’s next mayor. Then, at the last minute, Darcy Wyonzek filed her nomination papers and it appeared there would be a bit of a battle for the mayor’s seat.

Except, no one has heard from Wyonzek since she filed her papers. There’s been no media interviews, no social media campaigning. The Mountaineer has made several attempts to contact Wyonzek, with civic affairs reporter Melissa Jameson even teaming up with Revelstoke Review editor Jocelyn Doll to knock on Wyonzek’s door. There was no answer.

The Sept. 21 deadline to withdraw from the election has passed and Wyonzek’s name remains as a candidate for mayor.

At this point it remains unclear if Wyonzek is a serious candidate or if she’s planning to show up for the All Candidates forum at the Revelstoke Community Centre on Oct. 2.
