Brief: Revelstoke city councillor on leave following sexual assault allegations

Revelstoke city councillor Cody Younker is on leave from his council duties following allegations of sexual assault against a minor revealed in a civil lawsuit, the City of Revelstoke announced in a Jan. 19 media release.

“The City of Revelstoke is aware of the allegations made against Mr. Younker. Mr. Younker has requested a leave of absence from his position as City Councillor.”

The statement said that council procedure laws allow a council member to be absent from meetings for 60 consecutive days, or four consecutive regular council meetings, or whichever is the longer of the two.

“Council may consider allowing an extended leave of absence beyond that time frame,” the brief statement read. “Any decision on granting an extended leave will be made at a future date.”

The statement said Younker will not be paid during the leave, and that that came at his request.

It also said further council decisions on the matter will be “released to the public”
