Brief: Revelstoke city council pass fire protection bylaw for South Revelstoke in anticipation of successful negotiations with CSRD

Negotiations are still ongoing but the city is hopeful they can come to an agreement before the end of the year.

Revelstoke City council has passed a motion for a new bylaw to provide fire protection services for Electoral Area B (South Revelstoke). The motion was passed in anticipation of the Columbia Shuswap Regional District accepting the terms set out by the City of Revelstoke.

“The adoption today is in case the regional district is willing to take the deal on the table and continue with fire protection services,” said Mayor Mark McKee. “We’re doing our end of the paperwork in case this comes to fruition. I think this is a good deal and a reasonable deal for the regional district to be accepting.”

Negotiations for a new fire services agreement for Area B residents currently served by Revelstoke Fire Rescue Services has been ongoing for a couple of years. Council decided to pass the bylaw so that if the CSRD agrees to the terms a special meeting would not be required.

If the CSRD does not agree to the terms set out by the city fire services in area B could end on December 31. 2017.
