The Revelstoke City Council by-election is set to take place February 13, 2021, more than a year after now former city councillor Steven Cross resigned, citing ethical concerns over a motion to increase remuneration for mayor and council.
In September 2020, eight months after Cross left, the city had yet to call a by-election. The city provided a number of reasons for the delay including the COVID-19 crisis and the fact councillor Nicole Cherlet was running as NDP candidate for Columbia-River Revelstoke in the provincial election, which would have led to another vacant council seat had she won.
Nomination packages are available online or by appointment at city hall. Hard copies of the completed forms need to be submitted between Dec. 29 and Jan. 12. The by-election campaign period runs from Jan. 16 to Feb. 13, 2021.
Advanced voting opportunities will take place Feb. 3 and 10, 2021 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the Revelstoke Community Centre. General voting day takes place on Feb. 13, 2021 at the Community Centre from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Correction: An earlier version of this story stated the first day nomination packages could be submitted starting Dec. 20, when in fact the date is Dec. 29.
