Brief: Provincial govt says applications for up to $1,000 ‘Recovery Benefit’ open Dec. 18

The B.C. government has announced residents can apply for a holiday recovery benefit starting Dec. 18.

The B.C. government announces a B.C. Holiday Recovery Benefit for up to $1,000 dollars per family due to COVID-19.

“We are united with the millions of people and families who are wrapping up a difficult year and look forward to a new year with hope and the promise of a continued recovery,” said Premier John Horgan.

Minister of Finance, Selina Robinson, said the benefit will help stimulate our local economy and support small businesses.

Families with incomes under $125,000 can receive $1,000, while single people earning less than $62.500 can receive $500.

Families earning up to $175,000 and single people earning up to $87,500, will qualify for a reduced benefit amount.

A majority of British Columbians can start applying for the tax-free benefit from Dec. 18.

The holiday benefit also covers residents receiving income assistance and disability assistance.

In addition, people receiving senior’s supplement, income assistance, and disability assistance will receive an additional recovery benefit at $150 per month from January 2021 to March 2021.
