Brief: New Revelstoke roundabout opens

Traffic is now flowing through Revelstoke’s new roundabout, located at the intersection of Victoria Road, Fourth Street, and Townley Street.

In local news, Revelstoke’s new roundabout opened today. Traffic is now flowing through the roundabout that connects the Eastern Access to Highway 1 with Victoria Road and Fourth Street. The project began in April and had ran through the summer. The project created the new roundabout and also replaced underground infrastructure, such as water and sewer, underneath. Mayor Gary Sulz and other dignitaries joined other dignitaries for a brief ribbon cutting ceremony. The roadway is complete, but there is still some landscaping work ongoing around the site. The project also created a new bike and pedestrian crossing on nearby Fifth Avenue.

A brief ribbon cutting ceremony on Oct. 29 marked the event. Mayor Gary Sulz, city councillors, and other construction staff joined for a brief speech and ribbon cutting.

The construction project started in late April and ran through the summer.

The roadway is open, but there is still some work to be done on the adjacent landscaping.

The project also created a new bike and pedestrian path connection through the property on Fifth Street East.

The project replaced the old intersection that crossed the CP Rail tracks with the roundabout. However, a significant amount of the work was on underground infrastructure such as water and sewer.

Because the CP Rail property and the old Arrowhead rail line divide much of Revelstoke in two, a lot of underground infrastructure is routed through the location, much of it needing replacement.
