Brief: Interior Health details Revelstoke COVID-19 test availability

After a sudden surge of demand starting around Dec. 18, Interior Health increased the number of available COVID-19 test appointments in Revelstoke starting on Dec. 26. Details here.

Note: This story has been significantly revised since publication due to incorrect information provided by Interior Health. This story was generated by a request from revelstokemountaineer.com Interior Health for COVID-19 test numbers performed in Revelstoke from Dec. 15 onward. Our reason for asking was tests had been booked solid and we were hoping to gain a picture of the demand and the health care system’s response. Interior Health initially provided us with the numbers, but after we published the story, they said the numbers were not the number of tests performed, but instead the number of reservation spaces available on the web booking app, which is not what we asked for. We asked for the number of tests performed, which we have now received and published below.

In response to questions from revelstokemountaineer.com, Interior Health has provided details on COVID-19 test availability in Revelstoke.

On Dec. 29, Interior Health (IH) said it had performed a total of 456 tests in Revelstoke between Dec. 15–27, a time period we requested data on.

On around Dec. 15, testing availability became overwhelmed in Revelstoke, with an unknown number of people waiting for a test and others travelling to nearby communities to get tests.

Interior Health said it does not know how many people were unable to book a test.

Interior Health said it “averaged” 23 tests per day from Dec. 15 to Dec. 25. In Revelstoke, new appointments for COVID-19 tests are released at 9 p.m. each day, and usually 23 appointments are released.
