Brief: Four new fires in Revelstoke region following Thursday lightning storm
According to B.C. Wildfire Services, none of the new fires are “of note.” and all are suspected to be started by lightning.
Four new fires started in the Revelstoke region following the lightning storm yesterday. Most of the fires are further north on Highway 23, with the closest fire near Fan Creek.
According to B.C. Wildfire Services, all four fires were discovered today. They suspect that lightning sparked all four blazes as well. Only one fire covers more than one hectare in area. The Old Camp Creek fire is the largest at 10 hectares. The other three fires are under one hectare in size. However, none of these fires are “of note” according to B.C. Wildfire Services.
In response to the ongoing heatwave and dry conditions, the B.C. government issued a fire ban on Wednesday. With temperatures staying high over the weekend, residents have expressed concern over the upcoming fire season. However, none of the ongoing fires currently pose a threat to Revelstoke.
