BC Housing has announced the start of construction on an affordable apartment complex in Southside. The three-storey building, located at 297 Humbert Street, will consist of 24 one-bedroom units.
A statement from BC Housing says the project is targeted toward individuals and couples with moderate and low incomes, working in the resort and hospitality industries.
The project, originally announced by the Revelstoke Community Housing Society in 2018 is funded through the Columbia Basin Investment in Affordable Housing agreement between the province and Columbia Basin Trust, providing a grant of approximately $4.8 million for the project. Information provided from BC Housing in its statement noted the land is leased from the City of Revelstoke at a “nominal rate.”
Glen O’Reilly, housing chairman with the Revelstoke Community Housing Society, said the society is “thrilled to see our concept for our latest project starting construction. This building will not only add necessary rental units, it will also add an attractive and practical structure to the area […]We are pleased that together we will help meet the community’s need for more appropriate and attainable housing.”
The Revelstoke Community Housing Society will manage operations of the building, which is expected to be completed in Spring 2022.
