Brief: Chain reaction rear-ender on the Trans-Canada sends two to hospital

Following a Sunday collision on the Trans-Canada Highway near Crazy Creek that shut the highway and sent two to hospital, Revelstoke RCMP are reminding drivers not to follow to closely on the highway.

The three-vehicle collision that prompted the reminder happened at around 5:45 p.m. on July 15 near the roadside resort 40 kilometres west of Revelstoke.

All three vehicles were travelling westbound on the highway when traffic slowed or stopped, leading to one of the vehicles rear-ending the other two.

As a result of the crash, two women aged 45 and 33 were transported to hospital with injuries. There were eight people in total involved in the crash.

The incident snarled the highway as police, fire and ambulances responded to untangle the mess and treat the injured.

Highway crews managed to get one lane of traffic flowing after an hour of delay on the busy Sunday afternoon.

In a statement released Tuesday, July 17, RCMP reminded the public about some common sense driving practices:

The Revelstoke RCMP remind the public to use caution in heavy traffic on the Trans-Canada Highway and that sudden stops for traffic congestion, wildlife and highway incidents may be necessary. Drivers should avoid following too closely.

There was no word from the RCMP on any charges or tickets following the crash.
