Human remains found along the shoreline of Upper Arrow Lake have been identified as those of Christopher Sanford. Sanford was reported as a missing person on August 5, 2019.

On October 10, a couple walking along the shoreline of Upper Arrow Lake near Needles North Road in Needles discovered the remains and contacted police.

A police statement said investigators have positively identified the remains as 35-year-old Sanford, who was reported as a missing person on August 5, 2019. Sanford’s GMC S-15 pickup truck had been located abandoned in Fauquier, shortly after his disappearance.

In the statement, S/Sgt. Scott Aschenbrenner, Unit Commander of the Southeast District Major Crime Unit, said Sanford’s family has been notified of the latest developments in the investigation.

“At this time the focus of the RCMP investigation will be to determine whether or not criminality was involved in Mr. Sanford’s death.”

The BC Coroners Service is conducting an independent and concurrent parallel fact-finding investigation.
