Brief: BC Interior Forestry Museum seeks support for new trails

The BC Interior Forestry Museum is asking the City of Revelstoke to support its Riverside Forest Walk project. The project will include a network of trails on lands leased from the Ministry of Forest, Land and Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development and will provide residents and visitors with a nature, recreation and cultural experience.

The museum is asking council to consider support in the following areas:

-Provide a letter of support from the city for the project.

-Provide an access agreement for the road that cuts through city property.

-Give permission to build an on-leash dog walk loop and link the trail on city property.

-Give permission for trail signs to be put up.

“It is a great opportunity for the museum to develop an educational experience about local forest practices for visitors to the museum and local residents,” Laurie Donato, director of parks, recreation and culture wrote in a report to the city of Revelstoke’s committee of the whole.

The committee of the whole are recommending council support the Forestry Museum’s request. Council will consider the request at its upcoming regular council meeting on Tuesday, March 27.
