Box Canyon Bridge concept a no go
The Box Canyon bridge idea, at an estimated cost of $750,000, has proved to be too expensive to be considered seriously by the city at this time.
As quickly as it was proposed, the Box Canyon bridgewalk concept has been canned.
The idea to construct a bridge over the rushing waters of the Illecillewaet River on the eastern edge of Revelstoke gained some traction with community discussion but ultimately, at an estimated $750,000, it proved too expensive to be given any real serious thought.
“The Box Canyon project was a bit of an ‘out there’ idea and quite expensive,” community economic development director Alan Mason said.
“There would have to be a lot of planning and discussion before that project moves ahead.”
The idea was one of many presented at Revelstoke’s Tourism Infrastructure Committee meeting on Thursday, June 25, which looks at spending the province’s annual Resort Municipality Initiative funds.
“There were way more projects than there were funds available, so we had to cut some of them,” Mason said.
