UPDATE: Missing snowmobiler located on Boulder Mountain, area reopened

The missing snowmobiler was located on the morning following a daylight search that involved a helicopter and ground-based snowmobile searchers.

The missing man was “disoriented and tired” but in good condition.

“The RCMP and Revelstoke Search and Rescue appreciate the patience of the public during the brief closure,” said Revelstoke RCMP in a media release. “The RCMP wishes to thank all the volunteers and managers with the Revelstoke Search and Rescue team who spend many hours riding in the dark, hanging from a long line below a helicopter, and planning and managing a safe rescue for missing people. The dedication of this team keeps all recreational users in the Revelstoke and surrounding area safe and able to play another day.”

Boulder Mountain is again open for recreational activity. The closure of the mountain allows for effective searching, without the distraction of other riders.

Revelstoke Search & Rescue are looking for a missing snowmobiler on Boulder Mountain today. The search has led to the closure of the popular snowmobiling area in order to help searchers.

In a statement, Revelstoke RCMP said they were notified of the missing man at around 8:30 p.m. on February 19.

They said the man was with a group snomobilers from Hinton, Alberta who were returning from the Boulder Cabin to their lodgings at Peaks Lodge when one of the men did not return.

The missing man is 48 years old, riding a red Polaris 800 and wearing a bright green jacket and black pants. He is described as an experienced sledder.

Revelstoke Search & Rescue was activated on the evening of Feb. 19 and searched for the missing man until about 4:30 a.m.

The decision was made to close the riding area on Monday to aid the ongoing search.
