Body of missing fisherman located in Halfway River
A pair of hikers have located the body of Zacharie Blouin, 19, who went missing on July 28 while fishing on the Halfway River.
The body of Zacharie Blouin, 19, who went missing on July 28 while fishing on the Halfway River near Halcyon Hot Springs, was located on Aug. 7.
The BC Coroners Service say two people who were hiking in the area located the body and were able to bring it to shore.
The Quebec resident was reported missing on July 28 after he left a group campsite to go fishing on the river but didn’t return by the next morning.
The group went looking for Blouin and located some of his belongings on the riverbank, but couldn’t find the young man.
This touched off a large two-day search effort involving 38 searchers from Nakusp, Nelson, Castlegar, Penticton, Oliver/Osoyoos, and Revelstoke. The search also involved a provincial emergency program aircraft. The search was called off after two days.
The BC Coroners Service is investigating the incident.
The Halfway River is located on Highway 23 South between Galena Bay and Nakusp.
