Best Apps Series: ‘Best apps for building your dream mountain home.’

While there’s nothing like a little human interaction, we’ve complied the best apps by activity in this series of ten, for when humanity is just a little too much. Here is our ninth instalment, the “Best apps for building your dream mountain home”

1. Home Design 3D for iPad (Free)

Useful for new builds and renovations, with a ton of add-ons and advanced features to suit your needs. The main hitch here is that you cannot save versions of your plans- you do need an add-on for that. Use this app to play and dream: the sky is the limit!

2. Home Builder Pro Calcs (5.79)

This app is moderately spendy but it will take all of the guesswork out of buying and installing a number of building materials. A great one to have bar-none, but especially if, like us, you’re buying up surplus drywall or extra laminate floor from the Stokelist. App has “over 400 home improvement calculations and conversions.”

3. Taskboard (Free)

Because, oh good heavens, there will be lists. There will be lists written on every matter of substance strong enough to withstand graphite or ink and there will be sub categories within those lists. Keep them all in one place from Ideas, to To-Do, In-Progress and Competed categories. Keep them somewhere they will (not literally) smack you in the face. Because that’s what lists are for.

4. MagicPlan (Free)

This award-winning app “measures your rooms and draws your floor plan just by taking pictures. Simply add objects, annotations, and attributes to create an indoor map.” Simply, it creates indoor maps without measuring or drawing. Costs will apply to exporting your work and additional design tools.

5. Mortgage and Home Loan Calculator (Free)

Calculate the cost of your mortgage or home loan with ALL the bells and whistles. Great for first time home purchasers who do not need to be caught off guard by things like Canada Mortgage & Housing Corp Premium, Canadian Provincial Land Transfer Fees, and Municipal Land Transfer Fees (65+ regions). Likewise it has some valuable features such as adding a roommate’s income and sharing your quotes by email.

(Don’t forget a good level app with newer model devices they are quite accurate.)
