The Revelstoke Bantam Grizzlies brought home the provincial championship banner with a 3-2 home win over Vanderhoof at the Tier 4 final on Mar. 23.
The Revelstoke Forum was packed with local fans for the Thursday night final, there to cheer for a successful end to the team’s dream season.
The Bantam team lost only one game in their 2016-17 campaign, and were favourites heading into the final after convincing wins over all comers during tournament play. Their wins included lopsided victories over opponents: Mission 7-0, Creston 12-5, Vanderhoof 4-1, Whistler 4-1 and Clearwater 7-1
The Grizzlies scored one goal in each period. David Kline put the home team on the board in the first. Sammy LeRose scored for the Grizzlies in the second, and Grady Powell got the winning goal in the third.
A third period goal by Vanderhoof standout Ethan Flores put the visitors within striking distance at 3-2.
Goalie Izzy Palumbo kept the win in regulation time after stopping several threatening shots in the final minutes of play.
