Balance snowboard premiere at the Roxy tonight

Society Snow & Skate hosts a double bill at the Roxy Theatre featuring The Balance Movie and Wasted Youth: The Movie.

In Balance, pro snowboarder DCP explores snow, skate and surf culture across the globe to find out what makes makes the devotion to the lifestyle burn so strong.

The film features a section filmed right here in Revelstoke with Eagle Pass Heliskiing.

Wasted Youth: The Movie is a Revelstoke film from the Wasted Youth crew featuring big mountain backcountry riding from Revelstoke’s preeminent crew of snowboard tearaways.

Here’s an excerpt of a story we prepared for a November premiere at the Regent Inn. Nov. 12 will be the big screen debut at the Roxy Theatre.

‘Less Hollywood more Ghettowood’: Wasted Youth The Movie premiere

“We were trying to release it with the Malakwa Olympics 2018, but that fell through,” Jost joked, while hanging around the shop with featured rider Chris Curran.

The film features Sean Barrett, Taylor Roberts, Jess Kimura, Keith Martin, Chris Curran, Anthony Miller, Dozer and Seb Grondin. It was edited together by Sean Barrett and Nick Khattar.

Expect lots of local and regional sled-accessed snowboarding featuring big-mountain backcountry riding in deep Revelstoke snow conditions, the pair said. There’s no big theme, no special parts, no story or big concept, just footage of snowboarding in the mountains around Revelstoke by a crew with strong local connections.

“Trying to get back to the old school core snowboarding feel. Less Hollywood more Ghettowood,” Jost explained.

The crew concept is prevalent in snowboarding, skateboarding and other youth cultures; an in-joke snowballs into something more. Wasted Youth started in 2008 as a crew of snowboarders determined to take full advantage of the deep Revelstoke snow while they had the chance — during their youth.

“People say we wasted our youth doing what we love, but it’s not a waste, that’s the idea,” Curran said. “It’s a group of friends as well.”

“It’s a crew having the same passion for snowboarding,” Jost said.

Wasted Youth hats, stickers and T-shirts soon started showing up at Society Snow & Skate back about six years ago, and nowadays a walk through downtown Revelstoke usually turns up at least one person with a Wasted Youth hat or T-shirt.

Wasted Youth and Society Snow and skate are heavily intertwined, and have a big part in putting on Revelstoke’s snowboard season ender-bender at the S-Games competition at RMR.
