Highway 1 is closed in both directions due to planned avalanche control in Glacier National Park.

DriveBC reports closures between West Boundary and Beaver Valley Road from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Dec. 8.

No detour will not be available, and individual closures of up to 2 hours are expected.

Heavy snowfall combined with warm temperatures has created high avalanche risk in Rogers Pass.

The natural avalanche cycle is likely to produce very large avalanches running into the valley bottom, Avalanche Canada reports.

DriveBC will release a new update at 7 p.m.
