Kootenay–Columbia is still too close to call with just five polls remaining.
It’s not over until it’s over.
At the NDP rally headquarters in the Revelstoke United Church in Revelstoke, all but three of the NDP faithful had trickled out of the building, crestfallen at a defeat in the national polls and an apparent loss in Kootenay–Columbia with only a few dozen of 262 polls left to report.
And then, unexpectedly, Wayne Stetski jumped by over 1,000 votes, to take the lead, to the thrill of the three remaining supporters. The drama wasn’t over, as the challenger and the incumbent continued to trade the lead.
At the media table, writers for the Mountaineer and the Revelstoke Review prepared multiple stories for an outcome that could go either way. National media outlets had already called the election, for Wilks, before Stetski surged back.
The two traded leads on the latest polls through the night, but with elections Canada reporting 257 of 262 polls, Wilks led with 22,551, ahead of NDP challenger Wayne Stetski with 22,489 — a difference of just 62 votes.
