Brief: City of Revelstoke says new roundabout will open Thursday

The City of Revelstoke announced on Oct. 27 that the new eastern roundabout at the intersection of Fourth, Townley, and Victoria roads will open on Thursday, Oct. 29.

The roundabout project, which replaced the old intersection and also substantially upgraded underground infrastructure, was originally scheduled for completion in early September, but has experienced construction delays.

Currently, crews are working on completing the irrigation system and installing landscaping around the intersection. Most of the road works, such as asphalt, curbs and paint seem complete, but a few items are left, such as electronic signs for a new crosswalk.

There are still large piles of dirt and soil around the construction site. Given the onset of snow, it appears that some of the landscaping, such as grass or other ground cover, will need to wait until the snow melts and the sun shines in the spring.

An Oct. 27 City of Revelstoke media release said the project was “on-time and on-budget,” this despite an April 24 City of Revelstoke media release announcing the construction project stating the expected final completion date was mid-September.
