Brief: Stoke FM announces big staff changes

News came last week of big changes at Stoke FM, Revelstoke’s community radio station, and they were confirmed in a media release today.

In an Aug. 17 statement, the station announced big staffing changes.

Director Scott Duke, who was the main driving force behind the creation of the station, will be departing as the person behind operations. Duke hosted the station in his home on CPR Hill when it started roughly four years ago. It has since moved downtown to its Second Street East location.

He will be replaced by Mike Murphy, a current morning show host, who will take on the role as executive director. An Ontario native, Murphy studied radio broadcasting at Humber College.

In a media release, Duke welcomed Murphy to the station: “I am more than excited to see Mike stepping forward to ensure Revelstoke continues to have a community station, providing good tunes on our local airwaves. He is energetic, passionate and full of great ideas to improve Stoke FM into the future.”

Key employees Sarah Peterson and Annie Hewitt also departed from the station last week. In a statement, Stoke FM thanked them for their contributions to the station.

“The Stoke FM team would also like to thank our past team members Annie Hewitt and Sarah Peterson, as without their dedication and efforts over the last few years; Stoke FM would not be where it is today,” it stated. “Thank you also to all our partners in the community whose ongoing support is what keeps us on the air.”
